About the Art

Elizabeth Cawelti is a professional pet portrait artist living in Camarillo just north of Los Angeles, California. Over the last year, she has completed eighty unique paintings including the dog, cat and horse paintings on this site. The first dog she painted in July was a Chihuahua but she has painted jack russel terriers, beagles, collies, German shepherds, and a variety of breeds this year. Her favorites are Basset Hounds, Pugs, and Bulldogs for their expressive faces! She did outdoor art shows in Ventura, Santa Barbara, Studio City, and Woodland Hills this year and she won multiple awards at the Ventura County Fair's Adah Callahan Professional Arts Competition. Next year she hopes to show her dog and cat paintings in venues throughout Southern California and even participate in dog shows.

My approach to pet portraits is the same as my approach to portraits of people, with an eye toward capturing the subtle shifts in color, light and line that evoke the individual spirit within.

I paint with professional quality artist acrylic paints on tradtional stretched canvas. Standard sizes run from a momento sized 6" x 8" to a 24" x 36" show piece. If you have a non-standard size in mind, just let me know and I'll will give you a quote.

Custom Backgrounds

The pricing above includes a plain or simple background, but you might want to do something more detailed or creative with the background.
